Series: The Smart Commerce Academy | Track 1: WhatsApp Business API | Part 3 of 5
You’ve got your WhatsApp Business API set up (from Part 1) and your chatbot is live (from Part 2). Now it’s time to connect it all to your WooCommerce store so your customers in Algeria get automatic updates — from order confirmation to shipping tracking — straight on WhatsApp.
This integration saves you hours of manual messaging, reduces customer support tickets, and increases repeat purchases. Let’s set it up step by step.
Why Connect WooCommerce to WhatsApp?
When your WooCommerce store talks directly to WhatsApp, you unlock powerful automation:
- Order confirmation messages sent instantly after checkout
- Shipping updates with tracking links
- Abandoned cart recovery — remind customers to complete their purchase
- Payment confirmations for Edahabia and CIB transactions
- Product recommendations based on browsing history
For Algerian stores, this is especially important because WhatsApp is the primary communication channel. Your customers expect to receive updates where they already spend their time — on WhatsApp.
What You Need Before Starting
- A WooCommerce store (running on WordPress)
- WhatsApp Business API connected to your chatbot platform (DziriBot, ManyChat, or similar)
- Admin access to your WordPress dashboard
- A plugin or automation tool to connect WooCommerce to WhatsApp
Step 1: Choose Your Integration Method
There are two main ways to connect WooCommerce to WhatsApp:
Option A: Use a WhatsApp Plugin (Easiest)
Install a WooCommerce-WhatsApp plugin like DziriBot for WooCommerce or WATI. These plugins automatically send order updates to your customers via WhatsApp.
Option B: Use an Automation Platform (Most Powerful)
Connect WooCommerce to your chatbot platform (DziriBot, ManyChat, Make.com, Zapier) using webhooks and API triggers. This gives you full control over message content, timing, and advanced flows.
For this guide, we’ll use Option A (plugin method) because it’s faster for beginners.
Step 2: Install the WhatsApp Plugin
Go to your WordPress dashboard → Plugins → Add New. Search for “WooCommerce WhatsApp” or “DziriBot”. Install and activate the plugin.
Once activated, go to WooCommerce → Settings → WhatsApp to configure it.
Step 3: Connect Your WhatsApp Business API
In the plugin settings, you’ll be asked to connect your WhatsApp Business API. You’ll need:
- Phone Number ID (from your Meta Business account)
- Access Token (generated from Meta’s App Dashboard)
- Webhook URL (provided by the plugin)
Copy and paste these into the plugin. Click Save and Test Connection. If successful, you’ll see a green checkmark.
Step 4: Set Up Automated Messages
Now configure which messages you want to send automatically. Common automation triggers:
- Order Placed: “Thank you for your order! Your order #{{order_number}} has been received. Total: {{order_total}} DZD.”
- Payment Confirmed: “✅ Payment confirmed! Your order is being prepared for shipping.”
- Order Shipped: “🚚 Your order has shipped! Track it here: {{tracking_link}}”
- Order Delivered: “🎉 Your order has been delivered! We hope you love it. Reply 1 to leave a review.”
- Abandoned Cart (after 1 hour): “You left items in your cart! Complete your order now and get free shipping: {{cart_link}}”
Customize each message template with your store’s branding. For Algerian customers, consider adding Arabic or French translations.
Step 5: Test the Integration
Before going live, test the integration:
- Place a test order on your store using your own phone number
- Check that you receive the WhatsApp message within 1-2 minutes
- Verify all order details are correct (order number, total, product names)
- Test abandoned cart recovery by adding items to cart and waiting
If messages aren’t sending, check your WhatsApp Business API limits and verify your webhook is active.
Advanced: Abandoned Cart Recovery for Algeria
Abandoned cart recovery is especially powerful in Algeria where customers often browse on mobile but complete purchases later. Set up a 3-message sequence:
- After 1 hour: Gentle reminder with cart link
- After 24 hours: Add urgency (“Only 2 left in stock!”)
- After 48 hours: Offer small incentive (“Get 500 DZD off if you complete your order today”)
This can recover 15-30% of abandoned carts and significantly boost your revenue.
Common Issues and How to Fix Them
- Messages not sending: Check your WhatsApp Business API rate limits and message templates approval status
- Wrong phone number format: Ensure customer phone numbers are stored with country code (+213 for Algeria)
- Duplicate messages: Disable redundant plugins or webhooks
- Template rejected by Meta: Avoid promotional language in transactional templates
