Series: The Smart Commerce Academy | Track 1: WhatsApp Business API | Part 2 of 5
In Part 1, you learned what the WhatsApp Business API is and how to get access in Algeria. Now it’s time to take action. In this guide, you will set up your first WhatsApp chatbot — with zero coding, step by step.
Whether you are a store owner, a freelancer, or a service provider in Algeria, this tutorial will show you how to automate your WhatsApp messages and save hours every week.
What You Will Need Before You Start
- A WhatsApp Business API account (see Part 1 if you don’t have one yet)
- A free account on a chatbot platform (we recommend DziriBot or ManyChat)
- A phone number registered with the WhatsApp Business API
- 30 minutes of your time
Step 1: Connect Your WhatsApp Number to a Chatbot Platform
The first step is connecting your WhatsApp Business API number to a chatbot builder. This is the platform where you will design your automated messages.
Go to DziriBot and sign in. From your dashboard, click “Connect WhatsApp” and follow the on-screen instructions to link your Meta Business account.
Once connected, your phone number will appear in green as Active. You are now ready to build your first chatbot flow.
Step 2: Create Your First Chatbot Flow
A chatbot flow is a conversation path. When a customer sends a specific message, your chatbot automatically replies. You define what messages trigger what responses.
Here is a simple example flow for an Algerian online store:
- Customer sends: “Hello” or “Bonjour” or “مرحبا”
- Bot replies: “Welcome to [Your Store]! How can I help you today? Reply 1 for Orders, 2 for Products, 3 to Speak with an Agent.”
- Customer replies: “1”
- Bot replies: “Please send your order number and we will check the status for you.”
To build this in DziriBot, click “New Flow”, drag and drop message blocks, and connect them with arrows. No coding needed.
Step 3: Set Up a Welcome Message (Auto-Reply)
The welcome message is the first thing your customers see when they message you. It sets the tone and guides them to the right information quickly.
Tips for a great welcome message for Algerian customers:
- Use both Arabic and French if possible
- Keep it short — under 3 lines
- Offer clear menu options (numbers or keywords)
- Include your business hours
Example welcome message:
“مرحباً بك في متجرنا! / Bienvenue! Reply 1 – Track Order | Reply 2 – Products | Reply 3 – Payment Info | Reply 0 – Human Agent”
Step 4: Add Keyword Triggers
Keyword triggers allow your chatbot to respond to specific words. For example, if someone types “price” or “prix”, the bot automatically sends your pricing information.
Common keywords to set up for Algerian e-commerce stores:
- Order status: “order”, “commande”, “طلب”
- Shipping: “livraison”, “delivery”, “توصيل”
- Payment: “payment”, “paiement”, “دفع”, “CIB”, “Edahabia”
- Returns: “return”, “retour”, “إرجاع”
Step 5: Test Your Chatbot Before Going Live
Before activating your chatbot for real customers, always test it first. In DziriBot, click “Test Flow” to simulate a conversation and make sure all paths work correctly.
Checklist before going live:
- All menu options lead to the correct responses
- The bot handles unknown messages gracefully (“Sorry, I didn’t understand. Reply 0 to speak with an agent.”)
- Arabic, French, and English messages are handled
- Contact info and links are correct
Step 6: Activate and Monitor
Once you are satisfied with your tests, click “Go Live”. Your chatbot is now active and will automatically respond to all incoming WhatsApp messages 24/7.
Monitor your chatbot performance from the DziriBot dashboard. You can see:
- Number of conversations started
- Most used keywords
- Conversations handed off to human agents
- Response rate and speed
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Too many menu options: Keep it to 3–5 choices maximum
- No human handoff: Always have a way for customers to reach a real person
- Ignoring language: Algerian customers write in Arabic, French, and Darija — account for all three
- Not testing: Always test before going live
Why Algerian Businesses Are Moving to WhatsApp Chatbots
WhatsApp has over 30 million users in Algeria. It is the primary communication tool for both personal and business use. By automating your WhatsApp with a chatbot, you can:
- Answer customer questions at 3am without being awake
- Handle hundreds of conversations simultaneously
- Reduce response time from hours to seconds
- Increase customer satisfaction and trust
